Without being dreary or heavy-handed, author Burt does a nice job showing how two young men act/react to instant fame and how their respective families try to help mend the sudden rift. However, it leads to a believable breach in their friendship when one of them garners more of the spotlight than the other. What actually transpires, when their plans go awry - in front of an audience at an NBA game, no less - garners them more interest that either could have imagined. What gets the plot moving in The Right Hook is Devin's desire to be a social media sensation, and wanting Addison to film him performing a stunt that will attract online attention, followers, and possibly even $$$.
